And you though the PS2 Red Screen of Death was bad enough...

The PlayStation 2 is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Released in 2000, this is a console that was a successor to the original PlayStation as well as the second installment in the PlayStation console line-up. At the time, it was in competition with Sega's Dreamcast, Nintendo's GameCube, and Microsoft's Xbox. The PS2 is considered to be the best-selling video game console of all time having sold over 155 million units worldwide, as confirmed by Sony. Even with the release of its successor, the PlayStation 3, the PS2 remained popular well into the seventh generation and continued to be produced until 2013, when Sony finally announced it had been discontinued after twelve years of production – one of the longest lifespans of a video game console. Despite the announcement, new games for the console continued to be produced until the end of 2013, including Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin for Japan, FIFA 13 for North America, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 for Europe. This console was known for many well-known games such as God of War, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Tekken 5, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Madden NFL 2005, Medal of Honor: Frontline, The Getaway, Silent Hill 2, Okami, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Shadow of the Colossus, Persona 4, Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, Katamari Damacy, Grand Theif Auto: San Andreas, Spider-Man 2, Yakuza, Bully, Guitar Hero, Buzz!, and many others. While this is a successful console, it does spawn a toxic ironic fandom and hatedom.

Why They Should Live In Their World, But Don't Play In The PS2 World

  1. They can't tolerate different positions on the said console. How typical for a fandom and hatedom related to Sony Interactive Entertainment.

  1. They think that the PS2 is really powerful when the hardware was weaker than the Xbox and GameCube.
  2. They devote this console to their lives like it was very important to them. How can one console be more important than money, education, politics, poor people, getting a job, friends, and family?
  3. Some of them would blindly loathe on both the original Xbox and GameCube without giving it a chance. Just because those consoles are not Sony, does not mean they're bad.
  4. They complained about how Sony took out the PS2 backward compatibility on the PS3. Really now, it's Sony's decision you know.
  5. Typical cyberbullies and nostalgiatards who say mean stuff such as "Kids today won't know how great the console is", "I feel bad for 2010's kids", or "they won't know how to use a memory card".
  6. Overuseage of the memes of the PS2 startup screen as well as the infamous red screen of death to the point that it gets stale quickly.
  7. Speaking of which, a lot of the startup screen memes are mostly repetitive.
  8. On anything related to the PS2, the startup screen and the red screen, the YouTube commenters would spam "memes" that take up the bulk of the comments such as "5yr old me: I fear no many but that scares me" or "2019 recommend".
  9. They even compare the red screen to hell. Really now, how is a video game error comparable to hell?
  10. Don't say you prefer the PS3 or PS4 over PS2 because they will make unclever insults such as "10-year-old".
  11. They refer to the PS2's generation as "the last good game generation" or "I want to go back" which is rather silly.
  12. Someone even went as far as to name themselves after the console.
  13. There were even conspiracy theorists who believed that Saddam Hussein used PS2 consoles just to get the CPU chips. Not making this up.

  1. Some are even part of the Nintendo Fandom and the Microsoft Fandom for a simple reason. Also PC Gaming Elitists and moderntards are part of this as well.
    • Speaking of which, even Microsoft fanboys are the biggest offenders in this hatedom since they get into a lot of conflict with Sony.
  2. The Sega Fandom blames the Dreamcast's discontinuation on the PlayStation 2, even though the Dreamcast's discontinuation was the fault of Sega and it's bad business decisions in the mid to late 90s.
  3. They will use the system design as an excuse to dislike the PS2. Really?
  4. Hypocrisy: they like the PS2 games yet they hate the PS2 system. A good reason to make up your mind.
  5. They hate the console just because it's overhyped. Just because it's overhyped, does not mean it's bad.
  6. They think that all PS2 games are mostly racing games and RPGs when some games are clearly a different genre.
  7. They still come up with dumb insults for the PlayStation such as "GayStation" (homophobic) or "CrapStation".

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Mature and sane fans who understand that not everyone has to like the PS2 still exist.
  2. Some also liked the Xbox and GameCube, and they do have reasons not to buy the other consoles immediately since they are expensive.
  3. Many of them don't believe in the Saddam Hussein theory.
  4. Some do admit the limits the PS2 has.
  5. Some may have legit reasons to not really like Nintendo or Microsoft simply because it's not their type.

  1. They are right that some bad PS2 games exist such as Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, 25 To Life, Home Alone, Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel, Devil May Cry 2, Final Fight: Streetwise, Ford vs. Chevy, Garfield (2004 video game), Ghost Rider, Haven: Call of the king, Iron Storm, Juiced, Metal Slug 2006, Family Guy Video Game!, Naruto: Uzumaki Chronicles, NASCAR 09, Pimp My Ride, many of the games made by Phoenix Games (especially Animal Soccer World), The King of Fighters Neowave, The Simpsons Skateboarding, Top Gun: Combat Zones, WipEout Fusion, World Wrestling Championship, Zapper: One Wicket Cricket!, Unlimited Saga, Turok: Evolution, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Escape from Monkey Island, etc.
    • Speaking of Phoenix Games, they do point out how those games have poor quality discs.
      • On a similar note, they do point out that in the PlayStation Underground Holiday 2004 Demo Disc, the said game will erase the formatting in any memory cards inserted into the system if you play the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo (this is really unforgivable to owners of GTA: San Andreas, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, TOCA Race Driver 3, World Racing 2, or Richard Burns Rally).
  2. Not all of them are crazy enough to exalt Nintendo, Microsoft, or PC.
  3. They are not that widespread meaning it's mostly rare to find them. In fact, a good amount of them is mature nowadays. And yes, these are the same people who have honest reasons not to like the console because not everyone has to like it.
  4. They do have a point about the flaws the PS2 has such as the slim models being able to destroy the discs, the DVD features are more primitive compared to modern ones, the console being able to break down easily, etc.
