Super Mario (Franchise) Fandom (Toxic Portion) and Hatedom
Video Game Franchise Fandom and Hatedom
Very Active (Both)
SuperMario is a series of platforming video games created by Nintendo. This series features Nintendo's mascot Mario who goes on adventures that are typically seen in the Mushroom Kingdom. He is often joined by his brother Luigi as well as other members of the Mario cast. As in platform video games, the player runs and jumps across platforms and atop enemies in themed levels. The games have simple plots with the most occurring being Mario rescuing the kidnapped Princess Peach from the primary antagonist, Bowser. The Super Mario series is part of the greater Mario franchise. This includes other video game genres as well as media such as film, television, printed media, and merchandise. Over 330 million copies of games in the Super Mario series had been sold worldwide making it the second best-selling video game series in history. Most of the fandom is good, but it does have a dark side that is enough to have a page on the wiki. The hatedom on the other hand is toxic for a number of reasons.
Some of them would think that the titular character is a villain just because of a certain theory you should probably know off. But wait they did a lot more with Mario. click on this for more detail
Both sides may contain immature kids, manchildren, or bratty teens.
Some of the fans are nostalgia-tards who claim that all Mario games released after or during 2012 sucks. Now that's what we would call nostalgia-blinded. In fact, the Paper Mario Fandom does this a lot when it comes to nostalgia purists.
They tend to act way too superior to other fandoms. Mainly the Sonic Fandom and any fandom related to Sony or Microsoft.
When it comes to their strong hatred towards Sonic, they would use positive critical reviews as well as sales as an excuse as to why Mario would be more superior than Sonic. Come on guys, the Nintendo vs. Sega wars are over and give the Blue Blur a break.
Another thing to note about is that they refuse that some Mario games are bad or that they have some limits (even though many Mario games are successful). They would go as far as saying that Mario didn't have a bad game. Well, it's debunked since some Mario games are bad/mediocre (though some would like them as guilty pleasures) such as Mario's Time Machine, Hotel Mario, Mario Kart Tour, Mario's Game Gallery, Mario is Missing, Mario Party Advance, you name it.
Similar to the Preschool Show Fandom, they won't stop demonizing the haters nor complaining about how said people "ruined their childhood". Look, we get that the hatedom is toxic, but that doesn't mean that you can keep complaining about them nonstop. This makes them hypocrites.
Ironically, some Mario fans are very vocal against Mario hate yet don't like some of those games themselves.
There are some wars involving certain ships such as Mario x Peach, Mario x Daisy, Mario x Pauline, Luigi x Peach, Luigi x Daisy, Waluigi x Daisy, Waluigi x Rosalina, etc.
There's also the best character wars as well.
Speaking of ships, they do some incest ships such as Mario x Luigi (both are brothers), Bowser x Bowser Jr. (both are father and son), Peach x Daisy (both are cousins as proven in the Prima Guide for Mario Kart Wii, but it has yet to be proven in the games), or shipping the Koopalings with each other.
Another type of ships that they do is hero x villain ships which they would ship Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Peach with Bowser. Others included Yoshi x Dry Bones.
A portion of this fandom would see fan-made characters as legit Mario characters such as Bowsette and Jeffy from SML despite that they are only fan-made and are used in parodies.
When Illumination announced that Mario would get a movie, a certain part of the fandom started to freak out meaning that some of them hate Illumination. Seriously now, the movie is not even out yet and the Illumination Hatedom decided to treat this announcement like it was The Great Depression? In fact, some of them would think that it would be nothing but "strange" and "childish" humor when we haven't seen what the movie would be like (although Shigeru Miyamoto did say that he would be co-producing the movie so there is no need to panic).
Another thing is that they would think that Illumination would shoehorn the Minions (or make the Toads or Mario behave like the Minions). Just because Illumination is involved with the Mario movie, does not mean they would squeeze the Minions in the movie (unless it's a small cameo such as a Minion toy that was founded in The Lorax).
Also, just because The Lorax, Minions, and The Grinch were average at best while Hop being a bad movie does not mean that the Mario movie would suck since Illumination did make some fun ones that received positive results before such as the Despicable Me trilogy, The Secret Life of Pets duology, and Sing (though not everyone has to like these movies, but you get the idea).
Although not really as common, some would rather want to see another movie company work on the Mario movie such as Disney and DreamWorks. Even though demanding doesn't really do anything.
One last thing is that some would use the "video game movies are always bad" as an excuse. Though they have a good judgment that some lamentable video game movies do exist, some did pretty well such as this and this.
They make up strange and idiotic theories related to the franchise such as Princess Peach being Bowser Jr.'s mother. Hold up, how can a fictional human be a mom of a koopa (although adoption is another concept). It does not help that Bowser Jr. did mention "mama Peach" in Super Mario Sunshine.
An additional example of some bad theories is that they think that the Mushroom Kingdom is Nazi Germany. What were they thinking?
To add more fire to the toxicity fuel, some have believed that Bowser, Peach, and Wario being Nazis.
Some would see this game series like it was an important part of their lives. So they are saying that a video game series is more important than good people, politics, money, education, etc?
Hypocrisy: some hate Japan yet they don't seem bothered that Mario is made in Japan.
Some of them used to be former Mario fans until they quit because of nostalgia exalting meaning that some haters are nostalgia-tards.
In addition, some turned their backs to the franchise once they found out that the series is made in Japan.
Some of them like SuperMarioLogan, but dislike the main games, and don't know that Logan was inspired by the Mario games.
They hate the game series just because you have to rescue someone. Even though other games they may like has done rescuing before such as Assassin's Creed I, Cave Story, Crash Bandicoot, Dragon's Lair, Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zelda, BioShock, Castlevania, Mass Effect, Resident Evil, The Secret of Monkey Island, Watch Dogs, etc.
They keep saying that Mario games are repetitive just because you can rescue Peach despite the fact that Mario did more than just rescue Peach and Peach has been playable before. Also, didn't we forget to mention that Mario has had many video game genres as well such as racing, RPG.)
They think that Mario is just for kids when it can be enjoyed by anyone. Plus, Mario did tackle some dark concepts such as the Mario and Luigi series, Super Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, etc. Let's not forget that Mario did appear in T rated games before such as Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Some would hate the series just because it's overhyped. Just because Mario is popular, does not mean that it's bad.
They make up hate art of the characters such as this.
They dislike how these games are way too easy. Remember, difficulty does not dictate the quality of the game. Also, Mario still got some hard levels.
Some claim that the titular character is an offensive Italian stereotype when the Italians have never been bothered by Mario and some would like the series.
They want to force the Mario fans into playing more mature games in spite of players having a certain taste of game genre.
They dislike how Mario games are not really dark and want Mario games to be darker. Seriously now, you can't just run Nintendo and make the staff grant your wish. If Mario somehow got a game that tackles darker concepts, it might get the same results as theseresults. Though some did well such as Jak and Daxter (the reason behind this is because it doesn't try way too hard to be dark, let the characters get properly adapted to the new tone, and still has humor that isn't forced or out-of-place).
Some of them hate the game series just because they dislike certain characters such as Peach or even Mario himself.
A YouTuber named vivolus made Ten reasons why Mario sucks, but the reasons mostly focus on no proof, research and evidence.
They claim that all Mario fans are toxic when some are not toxic. Plus, they don't seem to deny that the haters are also toxic as well.
What Grants them a 1-UP Mushroom (Redeeming Qualities)
You can still find some nice fans and haters who can listen to other views.
They do have good judgement that Dr.Amigo is a knockoff of Dr.Mario and the Super Mario Bros. movieAMW being bad (even Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper hated it).
